More updates - Work and Rides
Thanks to a thunderstorm today, the park didnt have that many guests, hence when asked if i wanna go home or stay, i gave a resounding 'GO HOME'!
It was only 2pm then, but after dragging a bit, counting my cash, i left at 3pm.
Work has been very tiring, long hours with little break. Compared with the merchandise people and KR's housekeeping, food hosts are the worst. I clocked 66 hours in this week as compared to 40 - 50+ for them.
And my current record is working 15.5 hours in 1 day from 8am to 11.30pm simply i was made to stay. Damn crazy right! But if u do the maths, i earned US$106 in 1 day. Still, no way i will do that again...-2.jpg)
Finally uploading some pictures. In case you still don't know, we are working at Cedar Point at Sandusky, Ohio...
In fact, our address is:
General Delivery
Cedar Point Station
1 Cedar Point Drive
Sandusky, Ohio 44870-5229
So send us letters or even parcels with chilli sauce, curry powder, food and more food to us!
Work Life
Since we live in the apartments that is outside Cedar Point (which is a pennisula) and is linked by a causeway, we have to take the shuttle bus to work and back home everyday. And since there is a schedule to follow, everyone (not just Singaporeans) will try to squeeze onto the bus since no standing allowed. So die die must also get a seat. Damn kiasu. If we missed the bus, the next one will come in 10 - 15 mins time, by then we will be late for work already...

Once, we woke up seeing a misty scene outside. It was quite cool. But anyway, it was almost 3 weeks ago. Now, we wont have such a sight anymore since the weather has been warm at 20s - 30s.
On our first day of work on 10 May, the park was just 2 days away to its opening. Hence the poor us got to clean the stores, sweep the floor, move the benches and even scrub the floor with brushes. They called it 'deck' the floor here. We felt so ill-treated. But well, it was part of our job anyway..

This is my work location - The Roundup. It sells cheese burger (Maverick Burger), chicken finger and another burger, Western Melt that has bacon, BBQ sauce, beef patty and hot pepper cheese on it. Just a small store but it gets real busy since it is located just next to the Maverick - the latest and 17th roller coaster here.
Most of the time, i will be doing cashier job which comprises of taking orders, collecting money, giving the drinks, shouting the order to the back that has people making the burgers and doing the fryers and then collecting the food when it is ready and give them to the guests. That is a lot of job man. Just like McDonald's service crew actually.
Occasionally, when other locations are short of staff, we will be sent away. So in fact, from this job we basically get to meet lots of people, not just our own location. But there are way too many blacks employee than the whites here since Ohio is a 'black' city. At one point of time, there will be 8 blacks and 1 asian (ME) in my work place. But they are friendly people, though some just like to slack.
Welfare
As for employee welfare, there is the Recreation Center where im at now using the wireless, and there are tables, table tennis, computers, tv, gym, all in one place...
And there will be nights where employees get to ride the selected roller coasters after the park closes.
Ride Night
The first ride was on 17 May, when Millennium Force was opened to employees only. Queue was short and there were free hot dog buns, drinks, chips and even music.
That night was cold, only around 10 deg. Celsius
The roller coaster was voted No. 2 in the "Best Steel Roller Coaster in the World". And indeed, the drop of like 100 metres was damn powerful (imagine dropping from a 40-storey HDB flat). One has to ride on it to experience the exhilaration and adrenalin rush throughout the ride. And i rode twice and still felt nervous seconds before the big drop.
More rides
And on 29 May, a few of us were on off, so we went to play some of the rides. As employees, of course we don't have to pay to play. Ha.

So we played Skyhawk, Mean Streak, Magnum XL-200, Top Thrill Dragster, Power Tower, Maverick and the Iron Dragon in 4 hours. Damn tiring.
Of which Top Thrill Dragster is one of the famous ride here. It goes up to 140meters at 190km/hr and the ride finishes within 20 seconds..
After the rides, we had Chinese lunch buffet at the mall area and it was only US$6 per person. Sweet & sour pork, chicken, black pepper beef, wanton, fried noodle, rice, etc etc. Finally got chinese food after so long...
And we managed to catch Pirates of the Carribean 3 at the nearby cinema for US$5.50. It will be US$8.50 after 6pm, but lucky we watched the 5pm show.
The cinema is free seating and it has big screen and spacious seats. Won't lose Singapore definitely despite being quite an isolated location.
Anyway, after movie, went for some grocery shopping at Wal-Mart before heading home at 11pm+. A well spent off day i must say.
And tomorrow, i will be going Cincinnatti for 2 days for sightseeing and shopping! Looking forward to it. Ha.
Next post will probably on my Aurora trip - not there to see the aurora though..
