Philosophical thought
The question of why philosophers or philosophy majors don't do counselling work resurfaced after i did my philosophy term paper.
I was once rebuked that because philosophers are not at all related to social work nor counselling. Psychologists are perhaps better candidates.
But then, why cant philosophers use their philosophy and talk things out with those people seeking counselling?
Patient: Hi, i have a problem and i need help.
Philosopher: What problem do you have?
Patient: My life is screwed.
Philosopher: Why so?
Patient: The problem i faced in life screwed up my life terribly.
Philosopher: Is the problem screwing up your life because it is problem, or is it a problem because it screwed up your life?
Patient: HUH?!?!
Philosopher: Do you see it as a problem before it screwed your life, or do you see the problem as problem after it screwed your life?
Patient: Erm..... I don't know.
Philosopher: You see, a problem will be a problem when u see it as a problem before it is a problem.
Patient: But the problem is really screwing my life! How can i still think it is not a problem?
Philosopher: If you don't see a problem as a problem, you won't treat it as a problem, hence it won't screw your life. If you see it as a problem, it will always be a problem. Likewise, if you think it is a problem after it screwed your life, do you still let the problem be a problem?
Patient: Hmmm... So what am i supposed to do?
Philosopher: It is a vicious cycle. When you think a problem is a problem, it will be a problem that screwed your life. When it screwed your life, if you still make it a problem, it will be a problem that screwed your life further. You need to break out from this.
Patient: How?
Philosopher: Don't see a problem as a problem. And don't let a problem screwed your life!
Patient: Ok then.
So why make problems affect your life? Or stressed yourself out with stuffs? A stress is not a stress if u don't treat it as a stress. If you let stress affect your life, won't it seems dumb because you can choose not to?
So just enjoy what you are doing, and don't make your life screwed.
Ha, that's why i don't mug because i don't like to mug.

Wahahahahahhaaa that is very funny!!!
Hey you can apply what you learn... Hahahaa, maybe you should switch to that instead on engin...
Ha, but then i didnt write all these in my term paper leh, though i thought of it while doing it.. Ha
And no thanks, philosophy is best to just self-learn or using common sense on simple stuff.. no need to go in-depth...
Haha, that is just yourself avoiding the problem. The problem still exists no matter how hard you try to see the problem not as a problem. Because of the existence of the problem, even though how hard you try to see it as not one, you still have to solve it. In solving it, you are acknowledging it as a problem. Hmm

Philosopher: You see, a problem will be a problem when u see it as a problem before it is a problem.
Firstly, when u encountered something obstructing ur way, do u immediately see it as a problem? If u do, u will treat it as a problem and solve it with the minds of solving it as a problem.
Instead, why not see it as a challenge?
'Problem' is a negative connotation while challenge isnt.
If u see anything that obstruct ur way as something negative, it will somehow affect ur well-being since something negative is in ur life.
Yes, the problem still exists, but why see it as a problem?
When u have problem doing assignments, treat it not as problems, but practices to prepare u.
When u have financial problem, treat it as a chance to live a simple life with simple meals, simple activities.
When u have a relationship problem, treat it as a chance to learn from mistakes u or other pple committed, change it or move on.
Etc etc...
"And don't let a problem screwed your life!"
My point is learn to deal with challenges and accept the outcome that awaits u. Ha, so i didnt say u don't avoid a problem or don't solve it. U just gotta accept it and don't let it affect ur life. And not when face with a problem u don't know what to do, and then u keep telling urself, "Die! i have a problem and i cant solve. Im so sad, i cant even solve a problem. My life is screwed!!"
Have a positive outlook instead.
In conclusion, when faced with an obstruction, the first thing NOT to do is to see it as a problem. That's why i said 'Don't see a problem as problem' And when u really cant solve a problem that u think it is a problem, the next thing NOT to do is to make it affect ur life. If u have no ways to solve it despite all attempts, do you have the mindset that it screwed ur life, or just forget it, and move on? Either way, the problem just didnt solve. So which path do you choose - let it screwed or move on?
All in all, if u manage in solving it, why is it still a problem as "In solving it, you are acknowledging it as a problem."
It is your choice to choose the path.
so you're trying to say that a problem is only a problem if we acknowledge it as a problem.
maybe philosophy works by this way :
if you cant convince him, confuse him. if both dont work, con him. lolz..
perhaps when pp needs counselling, they just want someone to LISTEN..hmm.. think i'll go crazy even more if i meet Socrates on my way to a counselling session.. lol . A man in unstable mind will easily commit the unholy crime of slaughtering a philosopher. HAHAHA
Ha, u can say that... So, my point is, don't let external thing affect u drastically.
It isnt worth it.
Just like if u got a problem and cant solve, and u turn to suicide or even crime? That's so not worth it rite?
Ha, yah, counselling is to lend a listening ear, but shouldnt they try to knock some sense into the pple? Ha, if someone is very very depressed, a philosopher can reason it out with s/he, and persuade him/her to let it go...
